Ron Luce

Region 10 Director

A veteran educator and recovery advocate, Luce brings decades of community service experience to his role on the board. Most recently, Luce served as coordinator of a special peer recovery support program developed in partnership with Ohio Health O’Bleness Hospital in Athens, Hocking County Community Hospital, and Hopewell Health Center. For five years before that, he held the position of Executive Director for the John W. Clem House Recovery House, an Athens-based organization that serves men in recovery from drug and alcohol dependency. He also helped develop Ohio Recovery Housing, the state’s affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences, which sets standards and offers peer-reviewed certification for recovery housing, as well as training and technical assistance to housing operators. In addition, he helped write the NARR guidelines that underlie the state’s standards. Over the years he has served on numerous boards of small non-profit organizations. Previously, Luce spent almost three decades teaching and working as a higher education professional development leader. Additionally, he is an artist, actor, and writer. His most recent book is The Millfield Mine Disaster(about Ohio’s worst mine disaster, on November 5, 1930), published by History Press. His novel, Star Late Rising, will be released in the spring. He received his bachelor’s from SUNY Brockport in New York State and his master’s and doctorate from Ohio University.

Luce says he’s seen first-hand the pain caused by addiction but also the benefits of treatment overseen by professionals familiar with the circumstances of those they serve.
