Op-Ed: OneOhio using grants to make a lasting change, reinforce its mission

The Zanesville Times Recorder recently featured an op-ed by OneOhio Board Chair Don Mason and Board member David Matia. Below is a key excerpt from their piece, and you can read the full op-ed on the Times Recorder website (here):

The OneOhio Recovery Foundation recently awarded more than $45 million in grants to organizations throughout Ohio, marking a milestone in our fight against the opioid epidemic. These funds will help save lives and strengthen communities by supporting evidence-based solutions to the devastating addiction epidemic. More importantly, the grants reinforce a simple but powerful truth: Ohio heals as one.

The foundation’s initial funding round produced 245 awards, selected from more than 1,400 funding applications. These figures underscore both the scale of the crisis and the depth of Ohio’s local infrastructure dedicated to prevention, treatment, and recovery.

It’s also important to note that the $45.4 million awarded in this inaugural grant cycle is just the beginning. As an independent, non-profit organization, the OneOhio Recovery Foundation has been tasked with overseeing equitable distribution of more than half of Ohio's settlement funds from the pharmaceutical industry.
