Op-Ed: Grant Funding Making a Big Impact on Local Communities

OneOhio Recovery Foundation Board Vice Chair Julie Ehemann authored an op-ed in the Sidney Daily News that highlights the important work the organization is doing to get opioid settlement dollars into local communities like Sidney, Ohio. Below is an excerpt and you can read the full op-ed here.

Thanks to the OneOhio Recovery Foundation and the hard work and commitment of leaders in our area, western Ohio has a new asset in the fight against addiction — a recovery home in Sidney operated by Samaritan Works. This new facility, which celebrated its ribbon cutting on May 22, expands transitional housing for individuals rebuilding their lives and stands as a testament to what’s possible when local organizations receive the support they need to grow.

As a Shelby County commissioner, the Region 15 representative to the OneOhio Recovery Foundation board, and the board’s vice chair, I could not be prouder of the work being done right here in our backyard to create meaningful solutions to the opioid epidemic and of the work being done at the state level to support it. Without the $250,000 grant to Samaritan Works from the Foundation, this new housing resource might not have become a reality. But now, it’s up and running, helping those who are seeking to rebuild their lives.

This celebration comes at a pivotal moment. The OneOhio Recovery Foundation was created by our state’s leaders to distribute a portion of the funds paid to Ohio by the pharmaceutical industry as a consequence of its role in the addiction epidemic. These funds will transparently support addiction prevention, treatment and recovery efforts statewide — and every region has a voice in the decision-making process. I’m honored to be one of those voices for our region.
