Tom Gregoire

Statewide Board Director - Appointed By Gov. Mike DeWine

A professor of social work at Ohio State University, Gregoire is also emeritus dean of the Ohio State College of Social Work which he led from 2008 through 2022, during which the college increased its commitment to researching and teaching about substance use disorders and the consequences. Gregoire’s research focuses on access to substance misuse treatment, particularly for vulnerable people. Before entering academics, Gregoire spent nine years as a clinician and then an administrator of a group of non-profit adolescent and adult inpatient and intensive outpatient treatment programs in Kansas and Oklahoma. A past president of the Kansas association representing addiction professionals, Gregoire’s commitment is informed by his 44 years in active addiction recovery. Gregoire earned his master’s in social work and his doctorate at the University of Kansas. He and his wife, Carolann, have two adult children and enjoy traveling on their motorcycle throughout the United States.

Gregoire sees his service on the board as a chance to transform how Ohio responds to addiction via prevention, treatment, and recovery. He also brings with him personal experience of loss: “I have attended three funerals in the past few years for members of my recovering community who died by overdose, and two funerals for friends or coworkers who lost a family member to overdose.”
