Meet the Team: Atsede Getahune, Grants & Database Associate
Atsede Getahune, Grants & Database Associate
Atsede Getahune has built a career centered on humanitarian work and social impact. As OneOhio’s Grants and Database Associate, she continues that work by helping to ensure opioid settlement dollars are making an impact in communities across Ohio.
Atsede’s journey to OneOhio started with her work at the Danish Refugee Council, where she witnessed both the challenges and the resilience of communities facing extreme hardship in some of the world’s most underserved regions. Those experiences continue to shape how she approaches her work today, grounded in empathy and a deep belief in the transformative power of recovery.
That mission is also deeply personal. With immediate family members impacted by addiction, Atsede understands the ripple effects it can have on lives and relationships. Joining the OneOhio team has given her a chance to turn that personal connection into purpose, helping restore dignity, stability, and hope to individuals and families across Ohio.
In her time with the Foundation, Atsede has been moved by the real-life impact of the work. Reading reports and success stories has provided a powerful perspective on how the funds are transforming lives in tangible ways. The first grant round underscored the reach and necessity of the Foundation’s efforts, and the momentum leading into the next round only reaffirms how vital this support is for communities.
Looking ahead, Atsede is energized by the growing interest from groups eager to engage in the next grant round. She sees it as an encouraging sign that the impact of this work is spreading, creating opportunities for even more individuals and families to find stability and healing through recovery.
Originally from Ethiopia, Atsede cherishes time with her children, which grounds her and brings her joy. In her free time, she enjoys roasting and brewing her own coffee.
