ONEOHIO RECOVERY FOUNDATION BOARD APPROVES SECOND SLATE OF REGIONAL GRANT AWARDS AT SEPTEMBER MEETING
Governor DeWine Makes Special Recovery Month Visit; Board Also Highlights Dayton Street Medicine
COLUMBUS – The OneOhio Recovery Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit responsible for distributing 55% of Ohio’s opioid settlement funds, held its public board meeting Wednesday at the County Commissioners Association of Ohio offices. During the meeting, the Board of Directors approved the second slate of Regional Grant Cycle 2 awards, recognized Recovery Month and highlighted the harm reduction work of Dayton Street Medicine.
In recognition of Recovery Month, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine made a special visit to the Board meeting, thanking directors for their leadership and stewardship of Ohio’s opioid settlement funds. Gov. DeWine, who played a central role in developing the principles that shaped the OneOhio Memorandum of Understanding and Ohio’s opioid settlement distribution process, reflected on the importance of pooling settlement dollars so communities across the state can benefit from meaningful investments in prevention, treatment and recovery. He also encouraged the Board to think big about where OneOhio can make the greatest impact, particularly through investments that can leverage additional resources, expand promising efforts and make possible work that otherwise might not happen.
“We are grateful to Governor DeWine for his leadership in helping establish the framework that made OneOhio possible and for his continued commitment to communities impacted by the opioid epidemic,” said Vice Chair Keith Hochadel, who presided over the meeting. “The Foundation has a unique responsibility to ensure these settlement dollars are invested thoughtfully and strategically, while keeping local needs at the center of our decisions. That is how we can help strengthen prevention, treatment and recovery efforts and make a lasting difference for Ohioans.”
The meeting’s “Mission Moment” featured Dr. Marietta Orlowski and Dayton Street Medicine, a OneOhio grantee affiliated with Wright State University. The presentation highlighted the program’s harm reduction work and federal funding secured to support those efforts.
Following an executive session and discussion of recommendations from the Foundation’s regional review process, the Board approved the second slate of Regional Grant Cycle 2 awards, investing more than $2.4 million in 11 projects across Ohio.
The new awards build on the first slate approved Aug. 5, which included more than $40 million for 206 projects. In total, the Foundation has now approved more than $42.4 million for 217 projects through Regional Grant Cycle 2, supporting prevention, treatment and recovery efforts in communities across the state. Final specific grant awards will continue to be announced in the weeks ahead.
“Recovery Month reminds us both how far Ohio has come and how much work remains,” said Alisha Nelson, Executive Director of the OneOhio Recovery Foundation. “These latest grants put resources directly behind organizations doing this work every day, helping expand services, strengthen communities and support more Ohioans on the path to recovery.”
In other business, directors reviewed and approved the Foundation’s 2025 audit, which identified no major issues.
The next Board meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2026, at the offices of the County Commissioners Association of Ohio, 209 E. State St., Columbus.
