ONEOHIO RECOVERY FOUNDATION AWARDS $5 MILLION FOR 18 LOCAL PROJECTS TO ADVANCE PREVENTION, TREATMENT AND RECOVERY IN REGION 1
COLUMBUS, OH - Nearly 20 projects aimed at saving lives, preventing addiction, expanding access to treatment, supporting recovery, and strengthening community resilience in Franklin County have been awarded a combined $5 million through the OneOhio Recovery Foundation's Regional Grant Cycle 2. The 18 awards support locally driven, evidence-informed work that responds to the local impacts of substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health conditions, putting opioid settlement dollars to work where they can make a meaningful difference.
Ohio's opioid settlement dollars are most powerful when they reach the organizations and communities closest to the work of substance abuse prevention, said Alisha Nelson, Executive Director of the OneOhio Recovery Foundation.
"These second-round grants continue OneOhio's commitment to turning settlement dollars into life-changing investments that save lives, prevent addiction, and support lasting recovery,” Nelson said. “We are grateful to partner with the organizations and regional leaders who helped identify where these resources can make the greatest difference."

These investments will support organizations working directly with those individuals, while strengthening the systems and services that communities rely on for prevention, treatment, and recovery,” Clark Jones said.
Regional Grant Cycle 2 makes approximately $45 million available across the state. Project funding directly serves people with substance use disorder, including those with co-occurring mental health conditions, as well as family members affected by substance use disorder, according to purposes approved by the OneOhio Memorandum of Understanding.
Region 1 Grant Awards
Action for Children: $553,120 to support FatherUp, which will help fathers in recovery from substance use disorder deepen connections with their children while breaking addiction cycles.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Ohio: $275,000 to support The Hours That Matter Most: Afterschool Prevention in Action, which aims to reduce youth substance misuse risk during high-risk after school and summer hours.
Central Ohio Hospital Council: $265,633 to support Toward Opiate Free Ambulatory Surgery, which will support efforts to identify opportunities to reduce the amount of opioids prescribed after outpatient surgeries across the four Central Ohio hospital systems.
Clintonville-Beechwold Community Resources Center: $69,872 to support Kinship Care Expansion, which will provide case management support to kinship caregivers to support children whose parents have been affected by the opioid epidemic.
Columbus Early Learning Centers: $175,000 to support Early Learning Mental Health Programming and Supports for Children of Parents with Substance Use Disorders, which will address the increasing mental, developmental, and behavioral impacts of drug-related trauma on young children, strengthening social-emotional resilience and long-term outcomes for families affected by addiction and recovery.
CompDrug: $350,100 to support Treatment Access & Re-Entry Support, which seeks to improve outcomes for justice-involved individuals with substance use disorder, with additional supports for pregnant individuals.
Cornerstone of Hope, Inc.: $25,000 to support Youth Bereavement Summer Camps – Camp Memory and Camp Lighthouse, which will provide youth bereavement summer camps for children and teenagers ages 6 to 17 from Franklin and surrounding counties affected by traumatic loss, including substance use disorder–related deaths.
Directions for Youth & Families: $200,000 to support After-School and Summer Botvin Life Skill, which will fund peer prevention groups' work to reduce instances of substance use, violence, and other risky behaviors for youth in middle school and older.
Franklin County Community Based Correctional Facility: $201,760 to support Peer Voices for Recovery Project, which aims to expand peer support services at the Franklin County Community Based Correctional Facility, helping justice-involved individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions build recovery capital, overcome barriers, engage in treatment, and sustain recovery during incarceration and reentry.
Franklin County Municipal Court $297,000 to support The MARCH Program: On-Site Recovery, Connectivity, and Justice Innovation, which will remove structural barriers and accelerate access to recovery and harm-reduction services by delivering on-site clinical assessments, providing 4G-enabled smartphones to justice-involved individuals, and expanding outreach.
Franklin County Municipal Court: $452,121 to support Enhancing Judicial Accountability and Equity through Expanded Diagnostic Capacity, which will hire two additional laboratory monitors to expand evening and weekend testing, eliminate predictability, ease burdens on participants, and enable timely clinical responses, reducing overdose risk, supporting treatment engagement, and advancing fair, evidence-based recovery for approximately 13,000 individuals under Court probation supervision.
Hope Dealer Community, Inc.: $313,778 to support the Peer Support Team for Social Integration, Relapse Prevention, and Long-Term Recovery, which will establish a trained Peer Support Team for the 700+ participants in the Hope Dealer Community. This team will strengthen retention-in-care of participants for sustained recovery outcomes by providing core evidence-based strategies for recovery support.
House of Hope for Recovery: $600,000 to support the Hope Starts Here project, which will establish a 12-bed ASAM Level 3.7 medically monitored withdrawal management program to expand timely access to safe detoxification services for adults with substance use disorders in Franklin County.
Legal Aid of Southeast and Central Ohio: $200,000 to support the Justice for Recovery project, which will provide legal services, education, and advocacy to remove barriers and empower clients to understand their rights, make informed decisions, and effectively navigate their family’s civil legal needs.
Legal Aid of Southeast and Central Ohio: $300,000 to support the Housing Justice for Recovery, which will provide legal assistance to people impacted by substance use disorder, helping prevent evictions, address unsafe housing conditions, and protect housing subsidies to ensure safe, stable homes.
Mount Carmel Health System Foundation: $270,457 to support Treating Opioid Use Disorder with Medications for Opioid Use Disorder in a Street Medicine Setting, which will expand access to Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) by delivering low-barrier, walk-in treatment services by a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at Street Medicine mobile medical urgent care clinics.
Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital: $311,336 to support CARE-PRS: Connection, Advocacy, Resilience, and Empowerment through Peer Recovery Support for Postpartum Parents, which will provide nonjudgmental, trauma-informed support, resource linkage, systems navigation, and advocacy during a critical transition to strengthen recovery, build parental confidence, and promote healthy family outcomes.
Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital: $118,125 to support Enhancing Clinical Response to Overdose Through Poison Control Center Partnership, which aims to expand Poison Control Center consultation through targeted outreach, training, and data sharing to improve clinical decision-making for patients at risk of overdose and substance use disorder.
Together, these awards will support impacted children and families, expand access to recovery services, and strengthen prevention in Franklin County.
All grant awards were approved by the OneOhio Board of Directors following a robust, multi-step process designed to ensure local input, integrity, accountability, and alignment with OneOhio's approved purposes. The Foundation is working with approved organizations to complete the grant agreement process and move funding into communities across Ohio. Grants are contingent on a fully executed grant agreement.
For Regional Grant Cycle 2, applicants first submitted Funding Inquiries through the OneOhio Grant Portal. Eligible inquiries were reviewed by Regional Grant Review Committees, and selected applicants were invited to submit Technical Applications. Where applicable, submissions were reviewed by the OneOhio Expert Panel to ensure alignment with evidence and the OneOhio MOU. Successful applications were then reviewed by Foundation staff and the Grant Oversight Committee, with final funding decisions made by the Board of Directors.
Regional Grant Cycle 2 builds on the Foundation's inaugural grant cycle, which awarded more than $45 million to 245 projects statewide. That first round supported a broad mix of strategies, including youth prevention initiatives, school-based mental health supports, recovery housing, treatment expansion, post-overdose outreach, peer support, supports for children and families affected by addiction, and workforce development for the behavioral health field.
Grant recipients must submit biannual programmatic and financial reports, and the Foundation may request supplemental information or conduct site visits or virtual meetings as needed. These requirements reflect the Foundation's commitment to ensuring that every dollar is used responsibly and produces measurable and lasting impact.
