ONEOHIO RECOVERY FOUNDATION AWARDS $3 MILLION FOR 18 LOCAL PROJECTS TO ADVANCE PREVENTION, TREATMENT AND RECOVERY IN REGION 19
COLUMBUS, OH – Eighteen projects aimed at saving lives, preventing addiction, expanding access to treatment, supporting recovery, and strengthening community resilience in Ashland, Erie, Huron, Lorain, Medina, Richland and Wayne counties have been awarded a combined $3 million through the OneOhio Recovery Foundation's Regional Grant Cycle 2. The 18 awards support locally driven, evidence-informed work that responds to the local impacts of substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health conditions, putting opioid settlement dollars to work where they can make a meaningful difference.
Ohio's opioid settlement dollars are most powerful when they reach the organizations and communities closest to the work of substance abuse prevention, said Alisha Nelson, Executive Director of the OneOhio Recovery Foundation.
“These grants represent another important step in putting OneOhio’s settlement funds to work in communities across the state,” Nelson said. “We’re proud to partner with organizations serving Ashland, Erie, Huron, Lorain, Medina, Richland and Wayne counties to strengthen and expand the important work already making a difference in these communities.”
Local communities know their own needs, and these new awards reflect the priorities identified by local partners across Region 19, said Nicole Williams, OneOhio Region 19 Board Chair.
“These projects reflect the comprehensive approach needed to address the impact of addiction in our communities,” Williams said. “From giving young people the skills and support to prevent substance use before it starts, to removing barriers to treatment and strengthening recovery services, these investments will help people and families at every stage."
Regional Grant Cycle 2 makes approximately $45 million available across the state. Project funding directly serves people with substance use disorder, including those with co-occurring mental health conditions, as well as family members affected by substance use disorder, according to purposes approved by the OneOhio Memorandum of Understanding.
Region 19 Grant Awards
Ashland County Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse: $89,050 to support the School-Based Services project, which will add an additional educator to provide school-based prevention services to prevent and/or delay the onset of alcohol and substance misuse among school aged children and youth.
Bayshore Counseling Services, Inc.: $234,942 for Erie County Youth Resilience, which will build off the foundation created by the previous OneOhio Regional Grant Cycle 1, by expanding implementation for evidence-based practices focusing on prevention and promote mental health strategies for Erie County.
Bellefaire Jewish Children's Bureau: $184,684 for Evidence-Based Education and Prevention in Medina County Schools, which will deliver the Botvin LifeSkills Training (LST) program to students in Medina County.
Boys & Girls Club of Wooster, Inc.: $250,000 to support Prevention Programming, which will implement evidence-based opioid and substance use prevention through comprehensive Club programming.
Catholic Charities Corporation: $91,452 to support the Ashland Connects to Teens Mentoring and Prevention (ACT) Program, which aims to reduce the likelihood of substance use by youth who are at-risk due to challenging behaviors and related circumstances.
Coleman Professional Services, Inc.: $250,000 for Danielle’s Lighthouse to support evidence-based programming and additional staff at its newly opened 10-bed supportive housing and recovery facility in Mansfield.
Community Assessment and Treatment Services, Inc.: $182,410 to support the Extended Treatment Program, which will extend the length of stay for Medicaid recipients who are engaged in residential treatment, in order to achieve a better success rate with these clients.
Cornerstone of Hope, Inc.: $50,000 for the Never Grieve Alone Initiative - Youth and Family Bereavement Services, which will improve access to bereavement services for youth and families impacted by substance use disorder loss through a coordinated continuum of in‑school support groups, youth bereavement camps, and traumatic loss support groups targeted for caregivers and family members.
Horizon Education Centers: $149,952 to support PAX Training, which will provide training in evidence-based, population-level prevention strategies to reduce substance misuse.
Let's Get Real, Inc.: $99,000 for Recovery Ride, which will remove transportation barriers by providing reliable rides paired with certified peer recovery support.
Lorain County Public Health: $278,252 for the Lorain County Collective Impact Initiative, which will increase capacity and efficient service delivery impacting families and youth at risk in Lorain County.
NAMI Wayne and Holmes Counties: $150,000 to support the development of the Community Wellness and Engagement Campus, which will provide programming for youth, peers and families, along with an ADA-compliant walking path featuring community engagement stations.
Ohio Recovery Housing: $56,750 for Pathways in Practice: Turning Recovery Housing into Recovery Action, which will equip recovery housing operators in OneOhio Region 19 with practical, easy-to-use tools that support individualized recovery planning.
OhioGuidestone: $300,000 to support Gap Funding for Under/Uninsured Individuals in Need of SUD Services, which will enable more individuals who are uninsured or underinsured to access care for substance use disorders (SUD) or co-occurring mental health disorders.
OHuddle, Inc.: $87,500 for OHuddle Mentorship, which will strengthen prevention and mental health supports for more than 800 youth receiving one-on-one mentorship in 24 school-based settings.
Oriana House, Inc.: $178,634 to support Revive & Thrive: A Recovery Engagement Hub for Huron County, which will facilitate cross-organizational recovery service engagement and reduce transportation barriers.
Riveon Mental Health and Recovery: $201,106 for Removing the Transportation Barrier to Services, which will provide transportation to Riveon clients and their children.
The Road To Hope, Inc.: $200,000 to support Trinity House, which provides three levels of certified recovery housing for women and women with children with all types of substance use disorders.
Together, these awards will strengthen the region’s response to substance use by expanding youth prevention and education, improving access to treatment and recovery services, removing barriers to care, and providing critical support for individuals and families impacted by addiction.
All grant awards were approved by the OneOhio Board of Directors following a robust, multi-step process designed to ensure local input, integrity, accountability, and alignment with OneOhio's approved purposes. The Foundation is working with approved organizations to complete the grant agreement process and move funding into communities across Ohio. Grants are contingent on a fully executed grant agreement.
For Regional Grant Cycle 2, applicants first submitted Funding Inquiries through the OneOhio Grant Portal. Eligible inquiries were reviewed by Regional Grant Review Committees, and selected applicants were invited to submit Technical Applications. Where applicable, submissions were reviewed by the OneOhio Expert Panel to ensure alignment with evidence and the OneOhio MOU. Successful applications were then reviewed by Foundation staff and the Grant Oversight Committee, with final funding decisions made by the Board of Directors.
Regional Grant Cycle 2 builds on the Foundation's inaugural grant cycle, which awarded more than $45 million to 245 projects statewide. That first round supported a broad mix of strategies, including youth prevention initiatives, school-based mental health supports, recovery housing, treatment expansion, post-overdose outreach, peer support, supports for children and families affected by addiction, and workforce development for the behavioral health field.
Grant recipients must submit biannual programmatic and financial reports, and the Foundation may request supplemental information or conduct site visits or virtual meetings as needed. These requirements reflect the Foundation's commitment to ensuring that every dollar is used responsibly and produces measurable and lasting impact.
