ONEOHIO RECOVERY FOUNDATION AWARDS $2.16 MILLION FOR 10 LOCAL PROJECTS TO ADVANCE PREVENTION, TREATMENT AND RECOVERY IN REGION 13

COLUMBUS, OH – Ten projects aimed at saving lives, preventing addiction, expanding access to treatment, supporting recovery, and strengthening community resilience in Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake and Portage counties have been awarded a combined $2.16 million through the OneOhio Recovery Foundation's Regional Grant Cycle 2. The 10 awards support locally driven, evidence-informed work that responds to the local impacts of substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health conditions, putting opioid settlement dollars to work where they can make a meaningful difference. 

Ohio's opioid settlement dollars are most powerful when they reach the organizations and communities closest to the work of substance abuse prevention, said Alisha Nelson, Executive Director of the OneOhio Recovery Foundation.  

"These grants put settlement funds to work in ways that strengthen communities and create real opportunities for prevention, treatment, and long-term recovery,” Nelson said. “By working alongside these organizations and local leaders in Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake and Portage counties, we can direct funding toward the programs and services that will have the greatest impact for people and families across the region.” 

Local communities know their own needs, and these new awards reflect the priorities identified by local partners across Region 13, said James Dvorak, OneOhio Region 13 Board Chair.  

“By strengthening treatment and recovery services and expanding supports for people involved in the criminal legal system, these investments address critical, interconnected needs across our region,” said Dvorak. “Connecting justice-involved individuals and others impacted by substance use with the right care and resources can support lasting recovery, reduce barriers to stability, and help build healthier communities across Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake and Portage counties.” 

Regional Grant Cycle 2 makes approximately $45 million available across the state. Project funding directly serves people with substance use disorder, including those with co-occurring mental health conditions, as well as family members affected by substance use disorder, according to purposes approved by the OneOhio Memorandum of Understanding. 

Region 13 Grant Awards 

Ashtabula Municipal Court: $142,544 to support Ashtabula Municipal Court Recovery Court, which will provide a supportive and positive alternative to incarceration, including a comprehensive treatment plan for each participant.  

Coleman Professional Services, Inc.: $250,000 for Coleman Behavioral Health Urgent Care, which will support evidence-based programming and new staff at the soon-to-opened Behavioral Health Urgent Care in Ravenna, Ohio. 

Family Pride of Northeast Ohio, Inc.: $309,760 for Pathways to Recovery: Reentry Wraparound Services and Evidence-based Supports for Returning Citizens, which expands reentry wraparound and evidence‑based treatment for justice‑involved individuals in rural Geauga and Ashtabula counties. 

Legal Aid Society of Cleveland: $186,717 to support a New Medical-Legal Partnership to Support the Recovery of Individuals with Substance Use Disorder and Their Families, which will develop a new Medical-Legal Partnership with Signature Health to help individuals with substance use disorders and their families improve social drivers of health. 

NAMI of Lake County, OH: $176,096 for Return to Hope, which is a peer-led, evidence-informed recovery program. The project strengthens hope, builds recovery capital, and reduces barriers to sustained recovery. 

Ohio Recovery Housing: $56,750 for Pathways in Practice: Turning Recovery Housing into Recovery Action, which will equip recovery housing operators with practical, easy-to-use tools that support individualized recovery planning. 

Ravenwood Mental Health Center: $400,000 for a Medication Assisted Treatment program, which aims to empower individuals to cultivate healthier life management skills while addressing the physical and psychological cravings and withdrawal symptoms associated with substance use disorders. 

Red Tulip Project of Geauga: $88,603 to support Beyond Recovery Expansion: Peer Support Services for Long-Term Stability, which will reduce transportation barriers to recovery in rural Geauga County. 

Signature Health, Inc.: $350,000 to support Expanding Access to Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment, which aims to improve quality of life for individuals with co-occurring serious mental illness and substance use disorders through integrated, evidence-based services that address both conditions within one coordinated care system. 

University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center: $196,574 for SUNS Rise in the East - Expansion of Substance Use Navigator Specialists (SUNS) Services in Northeast Ohio, which will expand existing, successful SUNS treatment services, including SBIRT screening, motivational interviewing, assistance with MOUD initiation, and linkage to SUD and other medical care. 

Together, these awards will expand access to evidence-based treatment and recovery services, support justice-involved individuals and successful reentry, reduce barriers to care, and help people and families build long-term stability. 

All grant awards were approved by the OneOhio Board of Directors following a robust, multi-step process designed to ensure local input, integrity, accountability, and alignment with OneOhio's approved purposes. The Foundation is working with approved organizations to complete the grant agreement process and move funding into communities across Ohio. Grants are contingent on a fully executed grant agreement.  

For Regional Grant Cycle 2, applicants first submitted Funding Inquiries through the OneOhio Grant Portal. Eligible inquiries were reviewed by Regional Grant Review Committees, and selected applicants were invited to submit Technical Applications. Where applicable, submissions were reviewed by the OneOhio Expert Panel to ensure alignment with evidence and the OneOhio MOU. Successful applications were then reviewed by Foundation staff and the Grant Oversight Committee, with final funding decisions made by the Board of Directors. 

Regional Grant Cycle 2 builds on the Foundation's inaugural grant cycle, which awarded more than $45 million to 245 projects statewide. That first round supported a broad mix of strategies, including youth prevention initiatives, school-based mental health supports, recovery housing, treatment expansion, post-overdose outreach, peer support, supports for children and families affected by addiction, and workforce development for the behavioral health field. 

Grant recipients must submit biannual programmatic and financial reports, and the Foundation may request supplemental information or conduct site visits or virtual meetings as needed. These requirements reflect the Foundation's commitment to ensuring that every dollar is used responsibly and produces measurable and lasting impact.
