ONEOHIO RECOVERY FOUNDATION AWARDS $3.45 MILLION FOR 11 LOCAL PROJECTS TO ADVANCE PREVENTION, TREATMENT AND RECOVERY IN REGION 8

COLUMBUS, OH – Eleven projects aimed at saving lives, preventing addiction, expanding access to treatment, supporting recovery, and strengthening community resilience in Montgomery County have been awarded a combined $3.45 million through the OneOhio Recovery Foundation's Regional Grant Cycle 2. These 11 awards support locally driven, evidence-informed work that responds to the local impacts of substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health conditions, putting opioid settlement dollars to work where they can make a meaningful difference. 

Ohio's opioid settlement dollars are most powerful when they reach the organizations and communities closest to the work of substance abuse prevention, said Alisha Nelson, Executive Director of the OneOhio Recovery Foundation.  

“OneOhio is proud to direct these settlement dollars to organizations serving Montgomery County and support the work already underway to address the impact of substance misuse,” Nelson said. “These awards allow us to invest in locally driven solutions that respond to community needs and help ensure more individuals and families have access to effective prevention, treatment and recovery resources.”  

Local communities know their own needs, and these new awards reflect the priorities identified by local partners across Montgomery County, said Judy Dodge, Region 8 Chair.  



“From expanding access to treatment and recovery for people facing significant barriers to strengthening prevention and support for youth, parents and families, these projects will help Montgomery County reach people at every stage of need,” Dodge said. “Together, these investments will connect more residents to care, support long-term recovery and stability, and build a stronger, more coordinated behavioral health system across the county.” 

Regional Grant Cycle 2 makes approximately $45 million available across the state. Project funding directly serves people with substance use disorder, including those with co-occurring mental health conditions, as well as family members affected by substance use disorder, according to purposes approved by the OneOhio Memorandum of Understanding. 

Region 8 Grant Awards 

Affecting Community Transformation dba Oasis House: $100,000 to support Disorder to Discovery: Serenity is Within Your Reach, which will support human trafficking survivors with complex trauma, substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions. 

Ascend Innovations, Inc.: $260,000 for Montgomery County SafetyNet Portal Expansion Project, which will expand the county-approved SafetyNet Portal to further improve communication, coordination and collaboration across Montgomery County’s behavioral health system.  

Boys & Girls Club of Dayton, Inc.: $250,000 to support the Strong Foundations: Youth Prevention & Resilience project, which will implement evidence-based opioid and substance use prevention through comprehensive Club programming. 

Daybreak, Inc.: $155,740 for Prevention Services with Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, which will deliver whole-person substance use support to identify and address barriers that threaten housing stability. 

Five Rivers Health Centers: $421,000 for Prevention and Treatment Services in a Federally Qualified Health Center, which will train providers in medications for opioid disorder (MOUD), assess patients for substance use disorder (SUD), provide on-site MOUD treatment in a primary care setting, obtain consultative assistance for psychiatric-related dual-diagnosed patients, provide transportation, interpretation and medication assistance for uninsured patients. 

FOA Foundation: $36,000 to support the Families of Addicts Teen Prevention Youth & Resilience Program, which will prevent substance use initiation, strengthen protective factors and build resilience among youth ages 10–17 impacted by substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions through evidence-based, peer-supported prevention programming. 

Homefull: $1,000,000 to the Gettysburg Men's Engagement and Recovery Project, which will renovate space within the existing Gettysburg Shelter to create a dedicated Engagement Center with immediate access to recovery services. 

MonDay Community Correctional Institution: $250,000 for Expanding Access to Medication Assisted Treatment at MonDay Community Correctional Institution, which will provide access to MAT/MOUD medications for residents at MonDay CCI, reducing overdose risk, supporting long-term recovery and improving reentry outcomes. 

Nova Behavioral Health, Inc.: $334,000 to the Family Recovery Program, which will reduce overdose risk and promote long-term recovery among pregnant and parenting families by integrating recovery-oriented housing with outpatient treatment, medication-assisted treatment, parenting supports, peer recovery services and post-program relapse prevention.   

Sidewalk Soldiers: $350,000 to the Uthona Project, which will expand maternal and family peer support services for pregnant and parenting women impacted by opioid use disorder by increasing service capacity, improving physical space and providing parenting education and system navigation that strengthens family stability and recovery outcomes. 

Wright State University: $292,074 to Dayton Street Medicine – Expanding Reach Through Street Outreach and Peer Support, which will build on an existing one half-day of clinical care per week and expand the program’s reach by adding an additional half day of street rounds. 

Together, these investments will strengthen Region 8's continuum of care by expanding prevention, treatment and recovery services, reaching vulnerable populations, supporting youth and families and reducing barriers to care and long-term stability. 

All grant awards were approved by the OneOhio Board of Directors following a robust, multi-step process designed to ensure local input, integrity, accountability and alignment with OneOhio's approved purposes. The Foundation is working with approved organizations to complete the grant agreement process and move funding into communities across Ohio. Grants are contingent on a fully executed grant agreement.  

For Regional Grant Cycle 2, applicants first submitted Funding Inquiries through the OneOhio Grant Portal. Eligible inquiries were reviewed by Regional Grant Review Committees and selected applicants were invited to submit Technical Applications. Where applicable, submissions were reviewed by the OneOhio Expert Panel to ensure alignment with evidence and the OneOhio MOU. Successful applications were then reviewed by Foundation staff and the Grant Oversight Committee, with final funding decisions made by the Board of Directors. 

Regional Grant Cycle 2 builds on the Foundation's inaugural grant cycle, which awarded more than $45 million to 245 projects statewide. That first round supported a broad mix of strategies, including youth prevention initiatives, school-based mental health supports, recovery housing, treatment expansion, post-overdose outreach, peer support, supports for children and families affected by addiction and workforce development for the behavioral health field. 

Grant recipients must submit biannual programmatic and financial reports, and the Foundation may request supplemental information or conduct site visits or virtual meetings as needed. These requirements reflect the Foundation's commitment to ensuring that every dollar is used responsibly and produces measurable and lasting impact.
