ONEOHIO RECOVERY FOUNDATION AWARDS $1.15 MILLION FOR SEVEN LOCAL PROJECTS TO ADVANCE PREVENTION, TREATMENT AND RECOVERY IN REGION 17
COLUMBUS, OH – Seven projects aimed at saving lives, preventing addiction, expanding access to treatment, supporting recovery, and strengthening community resilience in Crawford, Hancock, Hardin, Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca, Wood and Wyandot counties have been awarded a combined $1.15 million through the OneOhio Recovery Foundation's Regional Grant Cycle 2. The seven awards support locally driven, evidence-informed work that responds to the local impacts of substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health conditions, putting opioid settlement dollars to work where they can make a meaningful difference.
Ohio's opioid settlement dollars are most powerful when they reach the organizations and communities closest to the work of substance abuse prevention, said Alisha Nelson, Executive Director of the OneOhio Recovery Foundation.
"These grants reflect OneOhio’s commitment to putting settlement dollars to work in ways that respond to the unique needs of communities across Region 17,” Nelson said. “The people who live and work in these communities understand their needs best, and these investments will help give local partners the resources to build on what’s working, address gaps in services, and make a meaningful difference for those impacted by addiction."
Local communities know their own needs, and these new awards reflect the priorities identified by local partners across Region 17, said Robin Reaves, OneOhio Region 17 Board Chair.
“From expanding trauma-informed care for children and families impacted by addiction to strengthening behavioral health, recovery and reentry services, these projects will address pressing needs across Region 17,” Reaves said. “By investing in local care, crisis support and services that help people achieve long-term stability, we can keep individuals connected to their families and communities and build a stronger network of support across the region.”
Regional Grant Cycle 2 makes approximately $45 million available across the state. Project funding directly serves people with substance use disorder, including those with co-occurring mental health conditions, as well as family members affected by substance use disorder, according to purposes approved by the OneOhio Memorandum of Understanding.
Region 17 Grant Awards
Anthony's Villa, Inc.: $134,181 for a Residential Expansion Project, which will open a new 10-bed licensed group home in Sandusky or Ottawa County to expand trauma-informed residential care for children impacted by family substance misuse and opioid-related instability.
Hancock County Board of Alcohol, Drug Addiction & Mental Health Services: $165,000 to support Project TAPS (Treatment And Peer Support), which will sustain services at The Steady Path, LEAD and BVHS, helping preserve access to critical recovery resources amid reductions in federal funding.
Hancock County Board of Alcohol, Drug Addiction & Mental Health Services: $183,772 to Project CARES (Clinical Assessment, Resilience and Economic Support), which will fund a mental health professional at the Juvenile Court and sustain services at FOCUS and FOC, strengthening access to behavioral health support for youth and families.
Sandusky County Department of Job and Family Services: $159,717 to support Group Home Establishment for High Acuity Needs Youth in Sandusky County, which will establish a local group home to expand access to trauma-informed care and supportive services for youth with high-acuity needs.
Seneca County Common Pleas Court: $154,444 to the PIVOT Recovery Program & Reentry Support Enhancement, which will enhance recovery-focused supports that address employment readiness, life skills, and housing stability, reducing barriers to treatment completion, and improving successful community reintegration for justice-involved individuals with substance use disorders in Seneca County.
Wood County Health Department: $246,455 to Wood County Mental Health First, which will create access to walk-in urgent care behavioral health services in a community-based setting.
Wyandot Memorial Hospital: $108,739 to support Wyandot Crisis Response and Family Stabilization Network, which will increase rapid, reliable access to behavioral health crisis support for individuals impacted by substance use disorder (SUD) and co-occurring mental health conditions and for children and families impacted by a loved one’s SUD.
Together, these awards will strengthen the region’s behavioral health and recovery network by expanding trauma-informed care for children and families, preserving access to treatment and peer support, increasing crisis and urgent behavioral health services, and helping justice-involved individuals overcome barriers to recovery and successful reentry.
All grant awards were approved by the OneOhio Board of Directors following a robust, multi-step process designed to ensure local input, integrity, accountability, and alignment with OneOhio's approved purposes. The Foundation is working with approved organizations to complete the grant agreement process and move funding into communities across Ohio. Grants are contingent on a fully executed grant agreement.
For Regional Grant Cycle 2, applicants first submitted Funding Inquiries through the OneOhio Grant Portal. Eligible inquiries were reviewed by Regional Grant Review Committees, and selected applicants were invited to submit Technical Applications. Where applicable, submissions were reviewed by the OneOhio Expert Panel to ensure alignment with evidence and the OneOhio MOU. Successful applications were then reviewed by Foundation staff and the Grant Oversight Committee, with final funding decisions made by the Board of Directors.
Regional Grant Cycle 2 builds on the Foundation's inaugural grant cycle, which awarded more than $45 million to 245 projects statewide. That first round supported a broad mix of strategies, including youth prevention initiatives, school-based mental health supports, recovery housing, treatment expansion, post-overdose outreach, peer support, supports for children and families affected by addiction, and workforce development for the behavioral health field.
Grant recipients must submit biannual programmatic and financial reports, and the Foundation may request supplemental information or conduct site visits or virtual meetings as needed. These requirements reflect the Foundation's commitment to ensuring that every dollar is used responsibly and produces measurable and lasting impact.
